Question

Information given to a potential employer

Sent to Business Law Experts May 13 9:44 p.m.

In casual conversation, prior to a possible interview, you are encouraged (and not stopped) to give information about a person you know interviewing for a position you may be interviewing for, and ask the hiring manager to "keep this between us" do to the fact that you worked together, and then they hire that person and tell them exactly what you said, can you have a case?

Dear Customer (name blocked for privacy):

One can always sue. The question is, will you win? I don't think you'll win this one.

You may, however, want to talk with the hiring manager with whom you spoke in private and let him or her know that you have reason to believe that he or she shared privated information with the successful candidate, and that you are disappointed that he or she did not keep your comments private. Leave it at that.

Good luck,

Merry
